Coefficient
The number multiplying a variable, e.g. in 4x the coefficient is 4.
Definition
In 3x² − 5x + 7: the coefficient of x² is 3, the coefficient of x is −5, and 7 is the constant term. Signs are part of the coefficient.
Example
In 2y − 9, the coefficient of y is 2.
