Gradient
The steepness of a line. Calculated as (change in y) ÷ (change in x), often written m.
Definition
A positive gradient slopes upward left-to-right; negative slopes downward. Horizontal lines have gradient 0; vertical lines have undefined gradient.
Example
Line passing through (1, 2) and (3, 8). Gradient = (8 − 2) ÷ (3 − 1) = 3.
