y-intercept
The point where a line or curve crosses the y-axis. Found by setting x = 0.
Definition
In the form y = mx + c, the y-intercept is c. The corresponding coordinate is (0, c).
Example
y = 2x + 5. y-intercept is 5; the line crosses the y-axis at (0, 5).
