Mutually exclusive

Two events that cannot both happen at the same time. P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B).

Definition

Examples: rolling a 3 OR a 5 on one die (mutually exclusive). Rolling an even OR a multiple of 3 (NOT mutually exclusive — 6 is both).
