Command Words

Explain

A short written statement showing why your answer is correct, using mathematical language.

Definition

"Explain" requires a sentence, not just a calculation. The sentence must use correct mathematical vocabulary and reference the relevant rule, theorem or definition.

Example

Explain why a triangle with angles 30°, 60°, 90° is a right-angled triangle. Answer: "Because one of its angles is 90°."
